Default [Mod Release] - New Ship - Empire Celt Tanker

Here is a new tanker I have completed. The model is named after the British tanker Empire Celt, but as I have only seen a picture of the broken stern half of the Empire Celt, I don't know how much resemblence there actually is. It is basically an older model, generic tanker.

I would recommend assigning this ship to the following nations:

Definitely:

US, UK, Germany, Italy, Japan, Norway, Greece, Panama, Spain, Portugal, Russia.

Also, these nations had several larger tankers, but very few:

Canada, Sweden, South Africa.

And Maybe...(but not sure):

Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, Turkey, Australia.

For now, I have uploaded the ship to Rapidshare, as FileShare is down. I will fix that ASAP.

EDIT - I have now removed the rapidshare link, as the ship has been uploaded to my fileshare page:

I only ever place ships into the country roster that had those ships, so your above Empire Celt will only go in the British folder like I placed your NCOT into the Japan folder.

As alway, well done.

OK. If that is your method of installation, here are the original countries of the other ships I released as well. Maybe this will help:

NCOT - You already know this was a Japanese design. The class name was actually Juyusen - I just found that out today.

NCVW - Pretty generic converted whale factory, but mainly based from the Ole Wegger, which was either German or Norwegian.

NCTH/NCHH - American Troop Transport.

NRC - Canadian Ore Carrier.

And of course, the Empire Celt was British, although this model does not resemble the parent ship very closely as the others do.

I may also release the Caribou (British/Newfoundland), Granville (British), Heavy Merchant (Completely Generic), and Pyro (US) after further testing.

IIRC I think I gave this 1 to to Norway plus Germany, Canada and Japan, will adjust.

NCTH I gave to the US, the NCHH I gave to the Red Cross.
I redid the equip files for both, the NCTH I changed the AA to 20mm Doubles and put the searchlights back on. The NCHH I stripped of all weps and put the searchlights back on.

Nice job. I can't seem to get good-looking skins for your factory ship, so I'll try skinning this thing. Most important of all, the NPTR funnel = funnel logos for civvy skins!

Is the ship armed later in the war?

RE: nationalities - If you want to use the ship as a stand-in for generic vessels I highly recommend adding it to the Swedish & Canadian rosters. IIRC Canada at one time owned the "C.O. Stillman" - possibly the largest WWII era purpose-built tanker at over 13000 GRT. Canada also owned the Imperial Oil ships, which were up to 11000 GRT - unfortunately several were lost in "Drumroll" circa 1942. Sweden had several large tankers, but I don't know of the class names. Same w/Mexico and Argentina.

Thanks for the info. I had heard of several large Canadian Tankers (excepts for the Nipiwan Park, they all seemed to be in excess of 9,000 GRT) but had no details on them. I wish I knew more about neutral merchant fleets as well.

And unfortunately no - this tanker has not been armed. Some of the weapons node points from the Merchant Cruiser/Transport might still work though, although some will no longer work properly of course (due to the 3d changes).

And thank you everyone else for the positive feedback thus far.

Update: The model has now been uploaded to FileShare, if anyone would rather get it there.

That is a loverly big piece of tonnage. I actually put my NCOT into a bunch of different Roster folders, just because small coastal tankers are fun to see.

This one looks quite nice.

Oh, I do have a question: Some ships show up in the manual as having type names (Large Cargo, or C3 Cargo), but these always show up for me as 'COT' rather than Coastal Tanker. I've tried to change it, but nothing I do seems to work.

My great-uncle (grandfather's brother) was in the Canadian Merchant Marine so I have spent some time reading up on it.

The largest Canadian Registered ship to be lost in WW2 was the Empress of Asia, bombed by Japanese aircraft near Singapore 5th Feb, 42. 16,909 tons. Role was Troop Ship.

The largest Canadian owned (British Registered) ship lost was the Empress of Britain, torpedoed by U-32 after being bombed by the Luftwaffe off Ireland 55-16N 09-50W. Date was 28th Oct 1940. Tonnage was an huge 42,348!! This was the largest allied merchant loss of the entire war.

I always liked the way that ship looked, with the gold funnels and white hull. Too bad she didn't survive the war (although she'd probably have been scrapped soon afterwards, b/c she was so unprofitable).

I've seen and heard of the Empress of Britain, but I've never heard of the Empress of Asia. Does anyone have a picture of her to post here?
