Default Carriers

Hi was just answering a post somewhere else in here and that got me thinking about the lack of carriers in the game

The British had 24 Fleet carriers all told and a further 62 escort carriers although 17 were merchantile conversions and the bulk of the rest were US

The dutch had 3 merchantile conversions

Even the Free French had 1 !!!

And not counting the 36 US fleet carriers or the 121 escort carriers

Hmmm lacking a bit in the game somewhat eh !!!

Germany also had an aircraft carrier the Graf Zeppelin but it was never commissioned. Actually two were constructed "Carrier A"(later named the Graf Zeppelin) and "Carrier B" (never finished) which was abandoned in 1940 and broken up.

More on the Graf Zeppelin can be found here:

I don't know, seeing how many the folks in the 11.Flottille over at WaW sunk, I'd say there's anything but a lack of them :hmm:

Heck, even I've managed to sink one!

I am sure that aircraft carriers will be a BIG part of SH4

Also, can u imagine being a jap sub and going to Pearl Harbor to watch the attack!

I'm curious to know who spotted a carrier in the stock game, and what was it's escort coverage like.

Well you might be right, but then there were hundreds of merchants running around to keep the uboats busy, so you may say that the u-boats were not actually hunting escort carriers (well apart from the Alternative timeline mod)

Default carrier

I spotted an Illustrious class in the stock game but it came with 6 detroyers and 2 Fiji light cruisers - i came steaming out of Lorient in a 1XB in 41 straight into the task force. Managed to loose of a salvo of 4 of which 2 hit.It went bow down then carried on at 16 kts while i spent an hour in the mud with dc all around. Still was nice to have a go at

Actually, SHIV has been announced as a US Sub Sim now, despite earlier reports of being based on Japanese subs. But Japanese carriers would be a large part of a US sub game;s experience too.

Default wow

wow not seen any of those for a year ? came across a Fiji light cruiser in a convoy last night - 1 torp at 7.3m mag and boom

have also come across a nelson with 2 cruiser and 6 or 7 destroyers too but alas no chance of letting loose at that lot steaming along at 25 kts

Thats what makes a good patrol bumping into some of the big stuff other than the usual corvette frigate or destroyer - you may not always get to have a shot but is nice to see them steaming along

are there sub traps in the scapa flow? i'm thinking of going up there for a visit sometime. but i play 96% real/vanilla so no external cams.

2 years in and i bagged my first C Class Destroyer last night sailing across at night at an easy 7 knots. i put 2 in him just for all the pain those DDs cause me
