Default Self Destroying Destroyer

:hmm: I was attacking a convy, sank the lead DD a T3 and a T2 then was dogged by the remaining DD. I needed to recharge so I headed off to the west and came to scope depth when I noticed the DD closing from 300m. Crashed dove fully expecting to have my conning tower ripped off. Instead I heard an explosion. looked around with the scope again and found no sign of any ship near me. Surfaced and again, no DD. I took off after the convoy and sank every enemy ship in it exhausting all fish and bullets. I wonder if the DD had a boiler explosion? Anyone have this kind of thing happen to them?

Perhaps it was a mine? :hmm: Just count your blessings and give thanks for some almighty protection, as you were about to be lost, but were spared, so some hull could find your torpedo's!

Happy hunting!!!

If he rammed your conning tower, the DD might have sunk by collision.

Or it might have sunk by own DCs, aircraft DCs or another DDs DCs.
I have seen a DD reverse his engines (to avoid collision) after he released the DCs, so that he depth charged himself to death.

He never touched me and we were near the GIUK gap so I don't think it could have been a mine but the think the DC theory works for me.

You might also happen to patrol near a Luftwaffe base and the planes got him. I've never saw this happening, but I've read reports like this from other SH3 users.

God, they are idiots. When you start getting 15m/s winds, they'll sink themselves when they go racing willy-nilly across the ocean after you. They make a straight bee-line for your sub, even if you've snuck into port and are behind the seawall. They'll beach themselves if there's a spit of land inbetween. One destroyer will shoot through another destroyer, just to get to you.

Absolute antics. Other simulations have always avoided this kind of stuff by making the enemy warships "invisible" to each other, so they could maneuver and shoot at their complete discretion.

Yeah.

I had an incident where i torpedoed this destroyer, he never sunk instead he just sailed around the area sort of on fire, well he was dropping fire balls? the ocean was covered with small bonfires, it was like instead of dropping depth charges it was fire balls. It was weird, i couldn't sink him either and thats after i put another two torpedos in him. So i left.

Heard once about a bug that if a DD hits the back of you then it sinks, This has happened to me once before, nice bonus but strange

well, I've not had a Destroyer do something stupid while at sea, I guess that will come with time (I'm only on patrol 2 of my second career)

I have noticed while still at port and heading out to sea that there is always this one Destroyer that always likes to get really close to my starboard side but then, even if I maneuver the sub to pass, the stupid ship pulls an all back full and rams into port.

I had 1 DD and 1 armed trawler with me in the middle. These 2 were taking pot shots at each other until the trawler sunk and the DD was badly damaged. 1 fish finished him off and the rest of the convoy was there for the picking!... Bonus!!

Hmm..maybe that fire behind him was burning fuel?!?..and yep..If u use SW mod or some other modes with realistic sinking times it can take up to 15-30 minst to sink even small merchant with 2-3 fishes And that is becose of modeled dmg engine i think...if u look around u can find details about how these mods works(basicly they calculate amount of dmg and water that rushes in) When i asked about that slowing ships i was given link to specific thread on this forum but i managed to mark all threads as read and now i cant find where it is so i can give u link becose of too many posts!
WE r too much active in this forum :P :P
