Default Uboats Technical Details - Resource info

Simulation for me is trying to bring some (near) realism into a game...

After finding that some of the uboat specs in SH3 original game and mods were, somehow overspec or underspec :hmm: (max speed, displacement, eng power and max depth, etc)

I got my hands dirty searching for the real technical details for all subs in SH3 and these are the values that I have collected.

Notes:
These boats, designed in 1939-40, have been called IXD/41, IXD and my main source gives them as IX
D1 and IX D2. The difference between D1 and D2 was mostly in engine layout and power.
The D1 had teething troubles and the D2 boats had a more proven layout.

These were more than 500 tons heavier and almost 10 meters longer than the IXC/40. They were armed
with 24 torpedoes in 6 tubes (4 at the bow and 2 at the stern) and had the secondary armament in the form of the Utof 105mm/45 deck gun with roughly 150 rounds of ammunition.

In 1943-44 the torpedo tubes were removed from the D1 boats (U-180 and U-195) and they converted
for transport use. In their new role the could transport 252 tons of freight.

@ VonHelsching
Errm... if you are still using GW, the Type IIA and IID's carry 6 torps.

Yep. I started a new career in GW and I'm on a Typ IIA now. I am almost sure that had on my last mission I had 5 torpedos, like in the stock game. I remember this, because I shot a salvo of my last two torps in a Large Cargo and waited for about a day to sink. It didn't.

I am suspecting that I may have some "leftover" mods in SH3Cdr "renown and medals.cfg", where you can mod sections of your basic.cfg

Will check tonight.

@Thyro

I was under the impression that the Typ VII C/41 could go far deeper (up to 300 meters) than the Typ VII C since it had a thicker hull!

believe me that I open my eyes too

From the data that I gathered. Some mention 5 torps total, while others mention 6 torps total.

So, someone is providing wrong data. Pls give me a few more days to "dig" more data to do a crossref.

6 torps make some sence because these type of uboats have 3 torpedo tubes. So 5 torps total would leave one torpedo tube without 2nd shot... :hmm:

However, I'm looking into this matter to see if I can find more docs/data to a cross reference.

Edited

I would like to confirm the reason for the difference...

Were 5 torps for ealier versions and 6 torps on later versions? (and if this is the case which II type had 5 and which had 6?)

Or was just one of those numbers for all II type? (which make some sites and books containing invalid information).

Any you are probably right!

I've not update that initial "max depth" reference for VIIC/41 since my 1st post.

I've not found yet doc/s which indicate the production test, operation depth test and computational depth. For this reason that I've not update that reference.

I've just read a book wich indicates that these subs max depth is from 250m to 300m. But as you can see isn't precise in terms of what is its real limit/computational limit.
