Default Uboat photos (LARGE PHOTOS)

My friend sent me loads of uboat photos. Most of them are new to me.

Here´s some of them:

A class III U-boat, propably pictured in 1917. The 105mm gun can be seen on the fore deck as well as the extended net cutter.

U117 was large, ocean-going submarine designed to attack shipping in American home waters during the closing stages of World War I. Whenever required, such ships would surface and take on Allied shipping with their guns. U-117´s armament consisted of 105mm (fore deck) and a 88mm (rear deck).

The Deutschland, an ocean-going submarine, was designed in 1917 to operate in American home waters.

A U-boat tackles rough water off the Heligoland cliffs. Even though the ships is a UB-III type, the picture has often been purported to show a World War 2 submarine.

I´ll be uploading more photos when I have time.

Awesome!

Lovely seeing the WWI U-boats side-by-side with their WWII counterparts - since it shows how similar they in fact were. Very much a direct line of descent.

Oh, and I have a thing for that ugly bastard UA, I don't know why

On 17 September 1939 the British aircraft carrier HMS Courageous was torpedoed off the Hebrides by U-29 commanded by Kapitänleutnant Otto Schubart.

U-47 back in Kiel Harbour, 10 days after the Scapa Flow raid. Korvetten kapitän Prien stands in the left side of the conning tower.

Commanded by Kapitänleutnant Otto Schubart, U-29 sails back to Wilhemshaven in November 1939.

U-10, a type II-B in Wilhemshaven harbour in winter 1939. The ship was then commanded by O. L. Günther Lorentz.

A type VII in a dry dock at Brest. The silhouette of the VII was practically identical to that of their World War I elders.

Fritz Julius Lemp´s U-30 sails into the harbour of Lorient 7 July 1940.

U-65 was the first German submarine to sail into Brest harbour in August 1940.

November 1940: U-69, a type VII-C commanded by Kapitänleutnant Metzler, is about to leave for another mission. The picture was taken in Saint-Nazaire harbour a few days before the ship departed. She was sunk on 17 February 1943 by the British destroyer HMS Viscount.
