Default sound problems..need help

Having some problems with sound.

It seems that sometimes, when I pause, then start again- trying to get black smoke, that the sound changes to a very loud background, like running water that it drowns out everything...only thing that helps is to save, then exit game. When I reload, it is OK.....

I tried running dxdiag and shutting down dx hardware acceleration...no go

Anybody else have this problem?? Any possible solutions?

thanks

Default Sound

Try turning down the hardware aceleration on your sound card. I had this problem and that fixed it for me.

I do not believe I have a sound card...I think its part of the mother board.

I did a dxdiag, found the sound tab, turned down hardware acceleration....Is this it??

You might also want to consider getting a sound card. The improvement from the onboard audio of 90% of the motherboards sold versus an actual sound card can be tremendous and it will reduce load on your CPU.

I had this problem after changing one of the Time Compression Values to 1x max.

If you fire the deckgun does it sound like a bow and arrow?

The value wasn't one I even needed to change, and after I changed it back it returned to normal.

I've always had this problem (really loud roaring sound like a monster from the Hercules cartoon) and it tends to be set off by lots of action in the game like multiple torpedo impacts. It can also occur spontaneously. I HATE IT. Half the time I'm diving after an attack I'm completely deaf and have to wait for 'Depth Charges in the water!' in order to know that I'm about to get cracked. I LOATH THIS PROBLEM. I played around with the acceleration thing and it had no effect for me. I suspect that it has something to do with the OGG codec. I used to get the same problem with Operation Flashpoint, which also used the OGG sound format. I've tried installing a new OGG codec, but it didn't change anything. If anyone figures this out, I would be GRATEFUL.
