Help. I have been playing on Steam for quite some time with Half Life and DW as a stand alone. I just downloaded the patch 1.03 and can't figure out how to get it to work with steam. Thanks in advance.

That depends on what your issues are Splash. Please be a little more descriptive on how you can't get it to work.
It looks like you've run into this problem... http://www.sonalystscombatsims.com/p...ighlight=steam If you've downloaded the Steam version, there was no need to patch it. |

The "stand-alone" version , as you called it, is not yet compatible with Steam.
By this i mean that yes, you can play against Steam players (as long as you have patched to 1.03 - as Steam version is already at 1.03). But i dont believe they have worked out yet how to allow/enable "stand-alone" versions to load into the steam browser (or whatever it uses) yet. I do remember Jamie mentioning something about them trying to though

Thing is what advantage do I, with a standalone copy of DW, get by being able to integrate it into Steam?
I can meet people to play with on GameSpy, I don't have to download anything... So is there any real reason to do it? |

As Winston has already said; I like STEAM. And when I bought Dangerous Waters it was already at Rev 1.03. I also play HL2 which gets regular updates as I suspect DW will. I can also make a back-up to another drive, cd or DVD of the game just in-case my current drive goes south. I can quickly click on the backup executable and reload the game. As far as Stand-Alone, I am curently still learning this game and have not tried Multi-Player but I do know that I can play Solo without the STEAM Engine being up. I will have to eventually try to play Multi-Player but from what I can see I do not think there should be problems playing on any Server in the world but I am new to that aspect and there are others more versed in that part of STEAM.

Fairly useful, I think... (then again, I went and bought a second copy through steam because I DID lose my discs, before finding out that they were working on being able to merge into steam... DOH!) |
