Ice Coverage???

Does anyone know if you can still drift even if you surfaced in a
ice coverage area? I think I remember in Sub Command when
you surfaced, you stayed in one place.

Speaking of flow ice. I need to check later to see if DW got rid of the invisible ice collisions back in SC. Finally can create/modify some of those Murmansk or Arhangelsk missions to other times than summer!!!

I 'think' the invisible ice collisions are still there... :hmm: tell me what you find.

So far I haven't ran into "invisible ice" around the 1% and 2% ice coverage. I'll try 50% later on.

you cant drift unless you want to slice the submarine apart, its like setting the sub in concrete then trying to move off doesnt do wonders for the body work.

I think Kirk means does the sub when surfaced through the ice drift with the ice pack.

in that case

its still dangerous, ice flowing slow or fast can still damage a submarine even sink it.

pack ice is like a razor in some cases and can cut through steel damage ships and propellors, so ships normaly stear clear of ice fields.

unless your an ice breaker and even then sometimes it doesnt all go in your favour

Kapitain, you're right the ice can be deadly, however, the ice pack is constantly drifting due to currents, winds and the Earth's rotation. Are you implying that submarines shouldn't surface through the ice because they are likely to be fatally damaged because of this drift? As you know, submarines have sucessfully surfaced at the North Pole without such problems. There is a danger of course, of the ice closing in around the sub in the freezing temperatures and causing damage but not from the drift itself.

no im not saying dont surface im saying becareful where you surface make sure your in a nice spot so that pack ice doesnt hit you because it can damage you.

some pack ice has been known to wiegh more than a nimitz class carrier and i dont think a puney sub will last much in that.

surface by all means make sure its clear and you will be fine
