Um, they do in my version. 1.4 + improveduboat 1.2. Perhaps you have a sound file either corrupted or in the wrong place?

Yes we do.
Sometimes a little harder if your running at flank and face the stern where you pick up your own engine.

Same problem here. Never heard screws overhead regardless of mods.
Others have commented how good the special effects are but I don't get it. 2 year old Audigy card (driver updated)in a dell xps 2400 system. New Logitech surround sound speakers setup. Oh well.

No screws overhead for me either.
I have a 1.4 + RuB 1.45. P4 2400, 512ram, Soundblaster live. wft? That sounds like a _really_ cool feature. Then again, I've had other sound problems (cutting out, scratching). But when it works - i thought it was _working_. wishing for the impending sound of death, kb |

Do you have the game music on? Its harder to hear the screws when the game music is on.

No, overhead sounds for me either. Even at 25m directly under a C3 in the middle of a convoy.
I have music on but at low level, will turn it completely off and see if that helps. I have tried default sounds and the incognito pack with same results so far. SKurj |

With the music checkbox unchecked (music completely off) I can now hear screws overhead. Do not know if this is neccessary or that perhaps music was just drowning out the screws before.
Anyways, problem solved for me! Though I have to say the music that comes with the game is outstanding in its ability to not get 'old'. I've been putting in 20+hrs a week into SH3 since mid October when I purchased it, and hadn't grown tired of the original soundtrack. SKurj |

They aren't real loud, crank the volume perhaps and check...
They also seem positional/3d |

Same here music is never on. I've turned the volume up and still no good.
I've got the Internal life sound mod currently enabled but this problem goes back to the first day out of the box. I used to have a pair of old crappy jbl speakers up until a few months ago so I thought that was it. Wrong. The sounds I get from the new surround sound system are much better but just not spectacular as others have reported.
