Default Patrol ended, can't award medals or buy mods

I don't really know what is going on, I just ended my 8th patrol. I sank a bunch of ships, including a Fiji cruiser I found in Loch Ewe.

After docking when I go to the screen with the desk and phone, the only things I can click on are the Log and the model Uboat to see the aces. I could not do the crew awards or change bases. The phone and the papers do not highlight when I hover the pointer over them.

Then when I go to the office view, I can click on the Personel filing cabinet and award medals from there, but can't click on the Boat mods. So I cannot buy upgrades or torpedoes.

I thought it might be a weird anomoly, so I did another patrol. I came back on the 9th, same problem.

Anyone seen this behavior?

Yes, I had the same problem once. It was not a bug. I had missed a radio message that my home base was changed . Not knowing this, I went and docked at my old homeport. Same as you no medals or uboat upgrades. So, I started a new mission, my grid to patrol was NULL and my new base(Lorient) was listed as where to dock.

Good Luck

Opposite example.
Left to patrol, patrolled grid for 24 hours, returned home, did'nt sunk any ship and got Knight's Cross after that.

Your home base has changed - as mentioned above. Now - the key on the no ships sunk and the medal - you get renown for patrolling your zone and making it back - it could have been enough to make your career renown high enough to get the medal.
Good Hunting.

Actually, on my very first SH3 carreer I kept sinking and causing havoc for ages, but could not get that blaster German Cross in gold. Then one time I decided I wanted to do something else while the game was loading, and exited as soon as the loading was done and I was good to go. I had done absolutely NOTHING - and I got the German Cross in gold.

Well, I went back to a mid patrol saved game. I checked my orders. I looked at my radio logs. Nowhere was I told that my home base had changed. I sailed from Wilhelmshaven, and orders said return to Wilhelmshaven.

Of course when I had docked, and you get that summary screen before you get to the desk menu, it showed there that my home port was Brest. I manouvered my way in through the Personnel filing cabinet to award my medals and qualifications, then my next patrol says "Patrol area NULL" and I guess that I am supposed to sail to Brest.

Very annoying though. Are we all sure this is the same bug? I really don't remember ever getting the message to change bases.

I had a very similar probelm when I tried to pull into La Spezia for repairs.
Except for the part about not knowing your home port had changed, I'm not sure it really is a problem. It seems like awarding medals and undergoing extensive upgrades would be something you only do in your home port. Whereas getting repairs for what you have and taking on supplies is something you could do.

You are right that you can't get into your personnel files from your desk, but I discovered that by clicking on the large file cabinet in the upper left of the screen you can get into the barracks to manage your crew. (I guess you are there as a kind of "guest".) You just can't award medals.
