Hello,
the night in SH3 is so dark that i cannot see anything, even not with a darkened room and increased monitor brightness. I just realized that i cannot adjust the monitor's alpha channel anymore, or at least it does not have any effect on SH3. Something to do with any mod (scene.dat changed instead of the old three envirinment files? - only an idea) Or did my Iiyama monitor fail somehow ? Greetings, Catfish |

I use RUB1.43 and i put a blanket over the window and close the door to make the room dark . I also find i have to hit the DEL button to remove the bottom panel because even the brightness of that makes it harder to see . After that i find that the darkness is pretty close to perfect .
I have an old diamond view crt monitor. RAedon 9600XT graphics card. |

Hello,
the Iiyama is a CRT monitor, and i just tried the blanket and the darkened room. It still is way too dark - simply black with a few stars or lighthouses to see. I will not darken my room and put a blanket over the monitor everytime i want to play, this is a computer game after all. I do not put a bucket of ice-cold saltwater over my head as well ![]() It works with all other programs and games. I have a 9600 pro ATI with 256 mb, and catalyst control center. Adjusting the channel suddenly does not work for a full screen 3d application, but it did before. What i want to know is if some new mod makes the use of the alpha channel impossible, answers please ! Thanks and greetings, Catfish |

Try using Capt. America's "scene.dat" file from his watermod and Kriller's "env" files from his watermod.
It cuts the murk in half... but is still murky and brighter. You can see from the nose to tail of a type VII. IMHO, that arrangement feels pretty much right to me and still lets me take pics. ... at night, wellll everything is darker anyway. I hope this helps ya. ![]() |

I don't claim to be an expert on submarines, the sea at night or Uboat operations. But my understanding is the many (if not most) of the attacks by Uboats occured at night. I'd assume they could see, identify and plot the attack.
I find myself waiting for dawn to attack because then I can see enough to identify the target and plot an attack. It seems way to dark to me in the game but I've never been on the open ocean in the middle of the night.

If people are having a hard time seeing at night using RUb I'd say their gamma settings must be out of whack. I reset my gamma settings before I made the mod, just to be sure. Sure, ships are hard to see in a pitch black night, just as they are in reality, but it is possible to see and attack them successfully. I've done it on numerous occasions.
If players' gamma settings are not the problem, all I can say is that the ocean at night is very dark indeed, and RUb is a realism mod. If some players have eye problems that make it harder to see the game at night, I'm sorry about that. The standard game's ENV files (or their own modded version) are probably what they should use. Some players have made the argument that it's 'just a game after all'. Maybe the Real U-boat mod isn't for them. With RUb it's not just a game anymore (it's a simulation). RUb can't be played as 'just a game' - it is guaranteed to be too frustrating for those looking for simple escapist fun. RUb is specifically designed NOT to be played as just a game, and thus it might be said that it is specifically designed to annoy the casual gamer. I make no apologies for that. RUb is designed to give players as realistic a simulated experience as we can give them. That means that some aspects of it are absolutely going to frustrate many players. It is designed to appeal ONLY to real hardcore simulation players, and to no one else.

I found it a little bit disorienting, myself (but I'm one of those people who's apparently very prone to SD (situational disorientation) even in simulations
![]() All I did was tweak up my water colors just a little so I have a little bit of a hint as to where the horizon is. In any case, I love the darkened reflections. ![]() |

I would like to be able to see the Milky Way on clear nights. It's not an urgent request, as the vast majority of the SHIII nights are stormy for me anyway.

Hello,
Beery you're right, the weather and/or darkness could make a night attack impossible, but after more than 20 years of sailing i can tell you most nights are not as black as what i see on my monitor ![]() It may also have something to do with my monitor, so i guess the mod will be ok for most people. Greetings, Catfish |
