As the capt of the U boat have a good hard look at your EXEC. If you can get your hands on a book called "IRON COFFINS" Hertbert Wener the U-Boat Capt experienced problems with his Exec. his young officer could not hold the the U-Boat at 12-20 m. In the end Herbert sacked him. great book if you can get it. Its the true story of A Uboat Comdr from 1939-1945.

Well, there goes that theory that people sometimes put up for an overly-stable boat.

I love this, actually. It's most definitely a feature, not a bug. The ballast system is definitely far from perfectly refined. One mistake on the valves, and you could indeed break the surface. There's certainly cases where it really happened.

Just one more risk to live with in that tin can, I suppose.

Hello,
keeping depth has to be monitored, even with an experienced crew - when i took my VIIC to 200 m i decided to let it glide on that depth at slow ahead, then went away to get some coffee - coming back the boat was at 220 m . I ordered periscope depth but the speed was not enough to raise the boat, the bow raised but the speed dropped to one knot, due to more drag caused by the raised dive planes - the boat even continued sinking slowly. At this point you can only go to half ahead or blow the tanks (once) for getting to the ordered depth or even keep the current one. The devteam knew what it did, or so i feel ...
Greetings,
Catfish
