Default manual targeting question

1st patrol, sept. 39

I stopped a freighter, crew evacuated. It is sitting there motionless (speed 0). I wanted to sink it with a torpedo, but when at the UZO interface, it does not seem possible to input data directly and the speed chronometer is useless when speed is zero. I finally had to input the data directly in the TDC.

Is that the way it is supposed to work in game? It would be a lot simpler if you could just type in data directly in the UZO/scope targeting interface without having to use the “tools”.

I don't recall which U-boat book I read it in, but the quote: "UZO...what UZO! Just aim the boat!" comes to mind. Maneuver your vessel into an approx. 90⁰ postion, with 'scope/UZO zeroed, just outside the eel's arming distance, set depth, and one at the motionless target w/o all the fuss and excess 'moving parts'? Use a cheaper steam eel, not an electric to save a few reichsmarks. Finish with the deckgun as necessary.

Hey Buddy, agreed. But I still want to check that the TDC data is correct before firing.

Anyway did some more testing and I see you can go directly from the UZO to the TDC to input settings and back to the UZO to fire without having to lock the target or use the target interface so there seems to be a lot of flexibility built in.

Hi Bilge_Rat,

you can enter any manual value in the interface. The value is then displayed with a green background and is no longer updated by the crew.

Enter the value 0 in the UZO interface and transmit it to the TDC. Or set the speed directly on the TDC.

Cheers Ruby

thanks, must be doing something wrong, I will retry.

p.s. - ok, I figured out the issue, I was entering a value and then pressing the [...] key which does nothing. You have to enter a value + press ENTER + press the [...] key and then the TDC values are updated and everything works as it should.

...back to hunting...

Hi Bilge_Rat,

very good!

Remember that your crew will never question your calculations and will not update the values if you have activated this in the gameplay setting.

If you want your crew to take over the firing solution again, you have to select the unit in the map view and remove your value in the lower left corner of the ship UI. As soon as this is done, the background of the field will turn brown again and in a short time, your crew will update this value.

Happy hunting!

Cheers Ruby
