The production is a German one, but almost all interview partners speak in English and they did not do German dubbing, but opted for German subtitles instead. (One shaman speaks Spanish, with german subtitles.) No German narrator from the Off. Thats what makes this accessible for you even if you do not understand German: the film practically is almost all in English.

Very impressive film. And touching. Only very rarely I found these topics being adressed this well.

Six researchers enter into a fictional exchange in the film: brain researcher Christof Koch, monk Matthieu Ricard, drug researcher Roland Griffiths, biologist Monica Gagliano, philosopher Richard Boothby and Mayan healer Josefa Kirvin Kulix.

All six are united by a passionate search for the core of human consciousness and its various forms and levels in the inner and outer worlds. Some speak of total purity, others of absolute interconnectedness.

By interweaving these approaches, which are on the one hand contrary and on the other hand complementary, "Aware - Journey into Consciousness" gradually develops from a science film into a visual meditation. The networks of consciousness are reflected in large cinematic images of interconnectedness and all-connectedness in nature, ranging from pea to jellyfish to whales and elephants to the cosmos. Viewers are invited to dive with these renowned researchers into an almost limitless ocean of consciousness, to re-examine long-held beliefs, or at least to be surprised.

"Aware - Journey into Consciousness" was awarded Best International Film at the Human Rights Film Festival in Bolivia. Previously, the film won the Audience Award of the online section at the documentary film festival "Millenium Docs against Gravity" in Poland, as well as the Feature Competition Jury Prize at the Illuminate Film Festival 2021, Sedona, USA, and the Audience Award "Create the Future" at the Maui Film Festival.

Thats bad news. 3Sat is a coop-broadcaster from Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

The film is available on DVD, i found out meanwhile, absolutely highly recommended.


It seems it also was in the movies last year, or this year. Won several prizes, was nominated for more.

Yea you're right. When I switch to Frankfurt on my VPN it lets me watch. I had no idea it worked like that...thanks for that

Everybody reading this thread, do like they say. Its worth it. That film sticks to the mind. As a psychologist and meditation teacher as well I was into this stuff, too, and still am, privately, what I lack however is the psychotropic experience.

Schade eigentlich.
