has anyone figured out how accurate the enemy detection model is ?
does it take into account a certain cone of say 60 degrees in front of the bow, taking into account a thermal layer. no matter what i do, sit still with every piece of machinery switched off, at 100 meter depth, they still manage to bee-line strait to where i am and bomb the **** out of me. in the silent hunter series i at least knew how they were able to spot me. with this i just pray they leave me alone, since i dont know what i have to take into account to. |

Same question here.... cripes even in the early war Feb 1941 the DD's are like the worst DD's in The Grey Wolves! I cant seem to shake them. Going to 160m, evasive actions like going Full speed with depth charge attacks and knuckle left/right...nothing seems to work.

I too am wondering this same thing. Trying to infiltrate a convoy is a nightmare. I put myself in their path, submerge way before visual range, I don't send any radio transmissions before contact. Down to 150+ meters with everything off, dead stop, manual steering, gyro off, pump off, compressor off, vent off, blue light on, and everyone except the hydo man in bed, and still they come right for me as if I was sitting out in the open on the surface. What gives, do they randomly ping sonar? There is no way they are expecting/suspecting me to be there. No ships were behaving like they thought I was there (no zig zagging, no speed changes etc.), up until the lead escorts magically divined not only my presence but my exact location. Makes no sense.

The detection system is flawed in the most current build. The AI can straight up hear you at 180°.
The devs say the detection system is being reworked for the 129 update this month. |

Im actually not having that problem and I have the AI set to high. I always sink at least 2-3 ships before the Escorts find me. When I am detected I dive to 200M, make sure everything is off, put everyone to bed and intermittently use ahead 1/3 with bursts of full speed as the DC's explode. Ive gone down as far as 220M using all the standard methods mentioned and have no problem evading. One thing to learn is the Turning radius of an escort..after drop DC's They always want to turn and repeat, turning into their turn helps to lose them. I definitely dont like the game NOT having a Rig for silent running...as the crew is apparently emitting 80+ DB??!! Heavy breathing?? LOL

Just make sure your steering engines are off and set to manual at the depth station. I didn't know that when I first started playing the game, and they were always able to find me. Now I am a freaking death shadow
