What I need most is practice targeting - but I don't want to have to cruise for an hour just to get to a possible target and all the uncertainties that go with that, i.e. will i ever get to attack at all or be driven off by an escort?
I've considered getting a friend to crew a second uboat and meet me somewhere and we fire at each other but that would take too long as well. It would be really useful for new captains if there was some sort of quick start practice range, i.e. you spawn in sight of a few ships, stationary and moving.

Play SH3, SH4 or SH5 then.
They have tutorials built in and you can save / reload to your hearts content. All the skills learnt there can be directly translated to here. In fact even the video tutorials on youtube are just as relevant. You don't have to practice in this game, if it 'takes too long' to get good at it. Plus, a friend and I found a convoy of 40 ships inc two escorts. Plenty of 'target practice' there. |

The youtube tutorials are good - but I don't think telling new players to buy another game just to learn the one they just bought is fair. Sure, I have them all but SH doesn't let you coop to learn how to target a ship - so your friend learns nothing - plus the split screen on the scope in UZO for estimating range to target isn't in Wolfpack (yet?), and I never used one of the range charts before.
As a feature request - a tutorial level is not major ask, but thanks for your reply.

But my point was you don't need co-op to practice shooting things, like you asked.
I was making a helpful suggestion if that's the skills you feel you're lacking. The only real 'co-op' part of this is that you don't set the TDC yourself whilst looking through the scope. And that just involves you speaking. So if it's just how to shoot or increase your hit count, the games you already have are perfect, and repeatable practice. What's wrong with multiple ways to skin a cat? |

And this seems to be a problem with 'Early Access games'.
People don't seem to care about how long development takes, or the roadmaps. If they've bought the game they feel they shouldn't have to wait to have everything they want, and more. I kinda wish games wouldn't release until they were ready because people are too used to instant gratification and haven't learnt how to be patient. Still I know I'm reinstalling SH3 just to practice some specific torpedo techniques. It's much more pleasant to do that without 4 randoms screwing things up due to lack of discipline or patience. I know my Wolfpack time will be more rewarding and entertaining because of it too. |
