I've used JSGME a number of times on SHIII and I'm now returning to SHIV after some time away because I didn't find the stock SHIV much of a challenge after the poundings you can get from British escorts. I always play high realism and in SHIV I found that as soon as I'd gone below the thermal layer and cleared my firing position the escorts never got near me. Now I'm trying TMO, RSRDC_TMO_V502. Knowing a Balao can easily make 600 feet and had a depth gauge which went that deep I installed the Balao 600 as well. All loaded through JSGME with no conflict alerts and show as installed in dark letters, but when I enter the game in a Balao class there's no 600 foot depth gauge in either the control room or conning tower only the standard 450 foot gauge.
Any ideas? It's also made me wonder if any of the other MODs have failed to load despite indicating they have. Is there a sure fire way of knowing a MOD has been applied? |

the only way to know for sure is to open the game and look for the changes it makes
some mods add things that can make it easy to tell but most you cant except by playing the game and seeing the results of what the mod is supposed to do. as berbster mentioned, many mods have double folders so you may have put the download in jsgme but not the correct mod file for example a mod called green trees might have a download file called green trees and inside that folder there is a read me text file explaining the mod and what it does and how to use it. there might also be an image file and/or more then one file if the mod is designed to work for v1.4 game and another file for use with v1.5 game. the way to tell it is the correct file is if you open up the mod folder and you should see the only file there called "data" and that is how you know that is the correct mod file to put into jsgme. so to recap, if the folder you put in jsgme opens up to show "green trees/green trees/data" then you put the wrong folder in and it will not work, if the folder you put in jsgme opens up to show "green trees/data" then you put the right folder in and it will work. |

Thanks gents, I've tried going into the files in MODs and some did have data and documents in there. I made sure the MOD was not double filed and only had data in it before installing with JSGME but I'm still seeing the same control room and conning tower with no 600 foot depth gauge when I'm selecting Balao class so I don't think the MODs are loading. I've even tried downloading them again.
Do you have any other suggestions? |

Can you use the D key to "dive", and just watch and listen to see if the boat keeps going deeper? I did think though that the mod changed the gauge in the Control Room by the diving station...

I have the 600 mod built into GFO its designed to fix all the little bugs and things in the game without changing the difficulty or AI also be aware the install order of things is very critical because some mods change the same files but in different ways. a mod you installed may have reverted the gauges back to stock defaults while it was changing something else relating to the files for gauges or something |

Thanks for the suggestion but it still doesn't work. Just to run you through what I do.
I have SHIV Uboat missions V1.5 loaded. JSGME loaded and I've used it successfully with SHIII. My MODs folder is on my desk top with all my MODs in it and they appear in the inactive section of JSGME. Following you last suggestion I checked them all for data only and ensured they weren't in double folders. I thought that multiple MODs might be the problem so when I still couldn't get it to work I loaded TMO 2.5 only and it still won't give me a 600 foot depth gauge so it looks like it hasn't loaded the MOD. Any other suggestions? |

Thanks Webster, it works like a dream now. Can't wait to try out the greater difficulty and max realism. Fortunately my tactics, sonar and radar knowledge and mental maths is far better than my computer knowledge.
