can't seem to get the VII in GWX to start

I'm sure I'm missing something. Fresh install SH3 GWX. I also use SH3 commander. I want to start in the flotilla that begins with the type VII.
However, I start the game, it shows that boat, but tells me I don't have enough renown.
GWX starts with 500, but the type VII requires 2500. How do you start a campaign with GWX and the type VII? Did I miss something?

Both the 2nd and 7th Flotillas start with the Type VIIb. If you select one of those in Commander you still need to pick that same Flotilla in SH3's selection screen.

I'm not sure if that's a solution but it is a start.

What about the type VIIA Steve, is it ingame?

Thanks Steve,
I selected the 2nd, and when I go to where my sub is (right side) it shows a type II and a type VII. If I try to choose type VII it tells me I don't have enough renown. I have 1500, maybe because I did one of the training missions? Not sure how this works.
