Greetings from lovely, frosty Canada Eh ...
I've been working with SweetFX & several of my games lately and am happy to say that SH3 is far & away the most dramatic example of how much you can improve an old classics appearance. This is all you need to get SweetFX up and running ... http://reshade.me/sweetfx This is all you need to get started customising SweetFX' settings ... http://sweetfx.thelazy.net/?p=91 Here are some rather dramatic screenies that I took, Demonstrating what can be done with a basic clean install + GWX Mod. so players must decide what they wanna use wide or sweet fx and i think that almost all players will use wide screen ... d3d9.dll will overwrite the d3d9.dll from wide screen that's why sweet fx is not used with sh3

The reason I play SH3 with SweetFX in 4:3 Resolution on my 32" LG monitor
is clearly demonstrated in the screenshots I included with my original post. IE: It looks absolutely gorgeous. Given a choice between beauty and utility, I shall choose beauty every time. Yours Respectfully, KarlVonSchlong |

Good One ...
Actually given the subject , high res ( 16:9 ) vs high quality ( 4:3 ), I feel compelled to mention that the rendering our video cards are capable of now makes a choice like mine seem to make sense. Every minute of gameplay in every interface of Silent Hunter III, has me saying wow, that looks' " SO GOOD " . And that makes me very happy with my Sweet - GTX 960 ... Anyhoo, I salute you ! wait until you play in 1920 x 1200 resolution with full anti aliasing! I use sweet FX in arma3 and love it, but cant use in SH3 or I loose hi-res, not worth it! But thatnks for the post and info!

Interesting - but I don't quite see... what's the advantage of using SweetFX / ReShade vs. using a widescreen mod AND tweaking SH3's 3D graphics quality settings (AA, Anisotropic filtering, directly in your gfx card control panel? Here's some screenshots I took using the LSH3 built-in widescreen mod plus my custom 3D settings for SH3 that I set with the nVidia control panel: http://s27.photobucket.com/user/VikingG/slideshow/LSH3

Really we need a way to set Nvidia cards for high AA without lost the sun halo. Nothing more than 4x4 works. Looks great in WS HD but an higher AA will be better.

Blitz, one question. Are all these startup mods necessary if one is running SH3 on XP 32 bit?
I have XP installed on a second HDD., but haven't had the time to get SH3 installed yet. Still working on getting on the internet with XP.
