One of these days we (Finns or Swedes) will force on of these things to the surface. And then we shall mock them relentlessly before apologizing for the inconvenience and sending them on their way.

Didn't the Swedes recently admit that there previous contact was actually a fishing vessel?

Yes and no. The photo of the alleged submarine turned out to be a civilian vessel, however the Swedes are still convinced that the first contact was a foreign submarine.

(It says so right in the article that was posted here. Does no one read anything anymore? )

I usually can't see past your sig image. Normally I can only tell you've posted if there is a scantily clad beauty staring back at me.

Indeed, it was a specific photo that was dismissed as a civilian vessel. They still classify one of the contacts as close to a definite submersible (highly probably I think the official classification is).

This is an image of a track found at the bottom:

This is the first image that was publicized as a probable sub (and classification remains as far as I know):

I hate to say this but does anyone else get the feeling that russia is sorta making everyone in NATO look bad in this new Cold War? I mean Americans always poked fun at Russia's tin can navy, now it seems like everyone is in a panic over phantom russian subs popping up left right and center.

I mean they should promote the sub captain that got his boat within visual range of faslane and then disappeared without a trace. Now that's guts and superb knowledge of ones boat o_O

I tend to see these underwater incursions as an extension of the aerial incursions into NATO airspace. Just Russia's way of saying, "We're back, we're bad and don't mess with us", after a long period of relative decline.

Apparently Swedish peace activists have deployed a rather unique antisubmarine buoy to deter further uncover Russian incursions---

http://www.cnn.com/2015/05/14/europe...lor-submarine/

Quote:
Ever wondered how to keep suspected Russian submarines out of your territorial waters? Never mind expensive naval hardware, Swedish peace activists have come up with a novel method: lowering a "Singing Sailor" device emitting a gay-friendly message via Morse code into the Baltic Sea. In an effort to combat military aggression and homophobia in one fell swoop, it's created the "subsurface sonar system" to greet any Russian submariners who might find themselves lost in Swedish waters.
