radar Navy's harsh requirements or what the heck?!?!

Upon returning to Brisbane on conclusion of his 12th patrol, Captain Samuel Ffnorde received his 8th Navy Cross (totally ridiculous, I know) and the unflattering message that as a Tambor class USS Tuna would be withdrawn from the front lines and given his unnoteworthy performance, he would be mothballed along with it.

Well, 8 Navy Crosses, a Silver Star, a Bronze Star, a Navy Commendation Medal, and 483'057 tons of enemy shipping destroyer including one Naka class CL, two Takao class CA and at least one Shokaku class CV were not enough to get a new boat. Wow! If I had known, I would have landed in Tokyo harbour, sneaked into the city and strangled Emperor Hirohito personally. Maybe then I would at least have been allowed to continue in USS Tuna.

OK, on a more serious note. I sthat due to me not having (at that time) installed TMO small patch, or is that a glitch upon promotion from Captain to (what's next?), or is it something else entirely? This is the end of my third campaign and it's the third time, I am not even there anymore for the Battle of Philippines Sea.

I never had that happen. Sounds like a glitch to me. With the performance, you may have confused the program.

I guess that's the Navy's version of grade inflation.

I don't know if this applies in your case, but Duci tried to make TMO limit your number of patrols; meaning it was supposed to be hard to stick around more than 5 or 6 or whatever. However, I have no idea how the details of all that works.

Hmmm, interesting. But my patrols were already longish >60 days, so how are you supposed to live through the whole war?

The point of many realism mods are to make it realistic - if they didn't do it in real life you don't do it in the game. One of the reasons I don't use some mods. In real life if a sub skipper made 5 or 6 patrols he was sent back to Groton to train new officers, or got a desk job or whatever. Same applied to pilots, Japanese and German aces got hundreds of kills, American pilots got 10 and they were pulled out of combat to instruct new pilots.

If you want to go through the entire war you either have to play without the mods that restrict that, or modify the mods to allow it.

Like Sniper said, few skippers made more than 5 patrols, in command. If you're retired, you can start a new career at that time in the war, and progress that way.

Btw, I don't think TMO makes it impossible to retain command, just harder. But like I said, I don't really know how that part of the game works.

I would prefer that the game send you, and your boat, back to the states for a major overhaul, and shore leave; maybe 4 or 5 months. Then you could be deployed again.

Made it an entire career in TMO + RSRDC multiple times and have never had this happen.
