Default JUST A "HEADS-UP" CONCERNING YOUR FLAK GUNS

Hi everyone. This is probably old news, but for any of you who don't know, I very strongly suggest you get the twin 20mm AA gun mounts fore and aft, if you can. I use them on my Balao-class boat and they are superb. Just make sure you have an ace gunner with a "guns" rating of 85 or better on each mount. That usually entails using a petty officer, which may not be the most realistic scenario, but, if you want to have the best protection from those pesky Zeros and Bettys, that's the way to go. I very rarely crash dive when enemy planes approach any more, unless there are more than two.
Happy hunting! Jeff

The US Navy has a PO rating called 'Gunner's Mate'. It certainly is realistic.

"Watch" is another important skill for a gunner. When I started my current career there was a NCO with Guns 109 and Watch 124 - he's magnificent

Get some good mods that are more realistic and you will not like to shoot at aircraft any longer. Submarines did not duke it out on the surface since survival was fairly 100% assured 200 feet below the surface.

Germany tried to use U-boats equipped with 4x 20mm flak to take on the ever growing thread from the air.... didn't work so well so I wouldn't suggest to use it unless in extremely calm weather. But SH4 has it's own logic about that and shooting down aircraft isn't that difficult.

Yes. I realize that. I've been studying naval history for almost 50 years, especially submarines.
At least I can have some fun before I get TMO and some other mods, right?

Wow! I don't currently have anyone who has a "Guns" rating over 100. Thanks for the tip about the "Watch" rating.

My mistake, he's actually Guns 124 and Watch 103
