Default Raphael Ravenscroft died

The name might not mean too much to you, but he played the killer sax hook on Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty.

RIP.

Here's his work:

At first I thought, "Who He?" even though they announced this on R4 news yesterday. Apparently he got sick of hearing this track 'cos he insisted he'd been out of tune; I used to play tenor sax and I never noticed.

(Oh P.S. I was crap)

Pretty sure I've seen him in concert.

RIP

Same here. I had no clue, but when I watched the video I thought "Oh, THAT sax hook!" I may forget his name again tomorrow, but one never forgets a riff like that.

Chris Evens was talking about him the other day, after his death.

He got paid the musician's union standard £27.50 per session. After Baker Street he was paid £2.5k per session.

That's some increase in wages, especially back then.

One of those many anonymous musicians who gave so much identity to songs that might otherwise not have been notable. The sax work on that song was really amazing. It has been said many lead guitarists are mainly trying to emulate harp (harmonica) and sax player riffs. Chris Evans work is beyond what a lot of the well-known guitarist who were his contemporary could have done; I am not a big fan of the song, but I always stop and listen when it comes on just to listen to the sax work...

RIP, Raphael Ravenscroft and thanks for one hell of a riff...

I seem to recall the check (or "cheque") from the Baker Street session bounced.
