Here is my current mod load out:
SilentHunterIV_Gold 1_TriggerMaru_Overhaul_2-5 RSRDC_TMO_V502 RSRDC_V5xx_Patch1 1.5_Optical Targeting Correction 031312 for RSRDCv502 Traveller Mod v2.6 TMO Traveller Mod 2.6 OTC 1.5 Patch Convoy Routes TMO+RSRD Traveller Mod 2.6 Harder Enemy AI Escorts When fog rolls in I can barely see beyond the bow of my boat. Being a retired Marine who spent a fair amount of time afloat in the Pacific and being a well read WWII naval warfare aficionado I know that it is very rare to encounter fog this dense, particularly for days at a time, in all but a hand full of locations (e.g., Frisco and Monterey bay, the lower half of the Aleutian Island chain in winter, etc.). Is there a mod or file tweak I can make that is compatible with my mods that decreases the density of the fog so that I can at least make out my target out to at 500 yards or so? Thanks! |

I like the fog ... it makes using my deck gun that much easier.
I can still see the enemy using the gun on manual in the fog due to siloettes but they can not see me so I use the deck gun to sink them. I have taken out Destroyers this way. I even sank the Yamato using fog. I was within 1000 yards and kept shooting at my radar bearing until I slowed her down and sank her. The escorts moved around but could never spot me since my radar allowed me to manuver out away from them and then back in to my target.

I think they're two issues, shaders and then the range settings in scene.dat. Like clouds, they can be solid or more transparent. The game uses light, med and heavy fog. If you're talking 500 yard visuals in TMO, that's heavy and obvious you shouldn't have good visuals.
As stated, learn to use heavy fog to your advantage. Depending on the sun position/light values, you can see a silhouette fairly far or just ask your sonarman for contact to nearest ship and try to get close, but shoot down that bearing. A few hits usually starts a small fire and you can easily see and shoot at that. Often a hit will cause a ship to turn on its lights, easy to see. Shooting torps is a lil more tricky, you can do the math, but I try to run parallel a lil behind, get about 600 yards, get a bearing, guess speed based on type ship and shoot from bow. Hard to miss at that range. When you get 40 bofars added, you can wipe out entire convoys on the surface. Just be careful when they get radar, they will send a hunter right up your arse. Also, don't get too close when ships explode, if one is loaded with fuel or ammo, it can easily damage or sink you within 3-500 yards.
