sometimes the escorts are blind. depending on the war. I've noticed that too.

whenabouts are you sailing? That could provide the answer. by 1943 the Japanese are usually very adamant on subhunting.

I'm sailing in 1941, but this also happens in single missions.

hmm. What other mods, if any, do you have installed?
I believe anything that fiddles with RFB and RSRDC's data might be conflicting and blinding your escorts

Edit: I've performed a convoy attack in 1943 and surfaced within 1000 yards, I think, of a gunboat and didn't get fired upon while I watched a ship sink nearby.

Which leaves the time of attack and the state of the weather...
Darkness is pretty good at hiding you and there were many occurrences of fleet boats surfacing in the middle of a convoy and not being spotted.
I hesitate to say that's the case but I'll do some looking around and see of I can find some answers.
I use RFB and rsrdc as well.

For me, The other thingie around! They spot me like 2nm before my crew spot them! The DD is insanely defensive and calling their mates to converge!

The other ships are like no shot or shoot and all miss!!!

When I activate RFB through JSGME it appears ok but when I activate RFB patch I get conflict alerts I hit install anyway which it does but then the RFB in the active side of JSGME goes from black to grey. What does this mean? Is RFB active or not? Other mods can be installed and stay black in the JSGME active box. I haven't noticed any difference in game play. I Play 100% realism.

The conflicts alert means that some things in the enabled mods will be overwritten by the mod you are presently activating (this often happens). The RFB being grayed-out is essentially the same thing. You should not try to disable a grayed-out mod before disabling the later mods that overwrote it.

With RFB 2.0 and the patch, this is normal.

The greying out indicates a mod that has been (at least partially) overwitten by a subsequent mod
