Default The unmodified AI isn't very challenging.

I sailed into Scapa Flow during daylight, but with some medium fog on my side. I detected three destroyers, but also a lot of fat juicy targets. I sank three ships, but the destroyers never actively came looking for me. I would have been an easy kill in that shallow water.

Next time I'm off the boat I will have to try enabling TDW's AI mod. How hard is it with that mod?

It's a very old and well-known bug that stock escorts are seemingly unaware of your existence. You really do need to use one of the mods that affect the AI. TDW's are among the best.

its part of where they dumbed the game down to boring levels so its so easy any kid can play without even learning the game.

as steve said, you HAVE TO use an AI mod just so the game is playable and not a joke

laurencius, heed their advice. These two will never steer ya wrong. Once you go modded, you'll shake your head and wonder why you waited.

On the subject of AI, has anyone ever actually had an aircraft spot and attack them? I remember having to dive every time one was spotted in SH3 and 4, as they sometimes would spot me even if I"m at periscope depth, or alternatively, flank speed ahead in a zig zag pattern while having the flak guns try to bring them down - as they usually came back for a few more passes if I evaded them. I've come to simply ignore them, clicking the "travel mode" and speeding timewarp back up in SH5 - since they don't seem to see, engage or pay any attention to me whatsoever. Does the TDW mod address aircraft AI as well?

Hiya,

If you're using tdw's generic patcher then cv's will indeed attack with planes

Irai and the patcher releases a world of hurt

He video'ed a aerial dogfight he happened upon, dunno if the vids around or if he even uploaded it

He made a test mission for the cv launching planes, i think they launch torps bombs and fighters (someone will know, i got damaged pretty quick) so of course it's amazing having this in the game

Steam users can't use the patcher, need a 'normal' .exe to patch (just in case you're a steam user)

The patcher fixes so many things, well worth the cost of a river dvd (use subsim top right of page )

I've just got pounced on by 2 fighters, looked like hurricanes to me, still repairing scope lol

The fighter bombers tend to rip your hull apart lmao after damaging scopes deck gun and umpteen essential goodies inside the boat

If you can install the patcher and Irai, sit back and get the thrill/thrashing of your sub career
