Default Fun with radar

Assignment: lifeguard duty

Spent some time around Savo island plucking airmen out of the drink, when the radar lights up with 5 contacts at extreme range. After a fashion I was still some distance away from them with the shorelines coming up fast.

Seems the surface radar was picking up crashed planes on Guadalcanal....

Is that normal?

Never had the radar pick up anything that was crashed before.
