Photo Recon of Hostile Port Mission Approach

Good day fellow skippers,

I really need help in approaching a hostile port without getting caught by the DD's guarding it. IT'S SO ANNOYING - the waters are shallow, boat rigged for silent running, always trying to evade them but somehow I always end up getting depth charged and nearly getting blown out of the water. Sometimes there are 2 vessels guarding these ports, 1 DD and a boat with depth charges.

I've tried a few hopeless tricks like torpedoing the DD which is stupid in my opinion. I've tried going in fast, submerged, took a picture but before I manage to get out I get depth charged so hard.

Tips and tricks are greatly appreciated.

Default Very slow and quiet

I try to stay as close to the shore as possible and approach as slowly as possible. Sometimes the destroyers will detect you and sometimes they won't.

But wouldn't you be more shallower if you stay closer to the shore? or the AI would possibly think there's a high possibility that there are no subs there

Are you by any chance using TMO?

Well, there's your problem, TMO takes the IJN's level of efficiency and cranks it up to insane.

Usually, sub-chasers don't have sonar, so as long as you keep periscope use to the absolute minimum (and don't run into them) they probably won't detect you.

DD's do have sonar, but they are deaf to anything happening behind them. So observe, plot, and time the DD's patrol pattern so that you can move in when his back is turned. As he's deaf, you can use speed.

If you can't get out before he returns, keep as much distance as you can from him, and keep turning your boat so that your bow or stern is pointed directly at him. This will make you much harder to detect. Keep your RPM's below 50 until he goes away.

BTW, there is an Easier A.I. mod for TMO that returns the sub-hunters to stock sensitivity.
