I don't have Win8.1 myself, but not installing into the default location the Program Files folder still holds well I believe.

As for SH5, I suggest you provide a bit more information about how or what goes wrong when you run SH5. And post it in the appropriate forum section.

I installed a full SH3, GWX, JSGME ,Mods and SHcommander only a couple of weeks ago.

Just make sure its a clean installation and put it into a folder on its own. DO NOT allow it to instal in the designated C drive folder.
I put mine into its own folder in the D drive.

Runs perfectly. Here's how for W8

Clean install (own folder outside automatic folder designation by your PC)
Do not run the game
Run 1.4 patch
Do not run game
Set up JSGME
Do not run game
Set up SH Commander
Go for it Captain

Thats for DVD in the reader, for running without the DVD in the drive you will need to add the SH3 cracks in at the stage before 1.4 patch upgrade.

Sink em all.......

I dont have SH5 so cannot offer any advice...but I would think its the same as SH3 set up, with you creating the file and folder destinations

Hello John, sorry for jumping in. I have been following your suggestions to get SH3 loaded on my late 2013 macbook pro. I am currently running Windows 8 pro in it's own partion. My first attempt with the SH3 CD failed with the default directory for installation. I have created ANOTHER drive within the Windows 8 side of my computer, to not install in the default directory as you suggested. The installation will not allow the separate folder. I get an error: Specified folder is invalid, incomplete, or write protected. Please select a valid install path. I have played with the settings of this folder, to try and allow it to write to it, to no avail. Any suggestions from the community would be appreciated. Thanks to all for keeping this great game still active!

Sorry but I have no knowledge of the Mac OS and how it configures the separate windows partition to be able to advise you.
Maybe someone else might be able to suggest what steps to take

Apologies

I have no experience with Mac OS either. But what folder path did you try do put it in then? Maybe you tried another place that happens to be restricted by Microsoft.

Usually I just replace the \Program Files\Ubisoft\ part with \Games\ in the path specification text box. As I don't mind it is in the C-drive. Or potentially you need to create the folder manually on the drive, instead of letting the installation software do it.
