Default Doner kebab 'inventor' dies at 80

My question is what will Sky and Schroeder do in the future when they feel hungry?

Quote:
The Turkish immigrant credited with inventing the doner kebab has died in Berlin aged 80.
Kadir Nurman set up a stall in West Berlin in 1972, selling grilled meat and salad inside a flat bread.
He had noticed the fast pace of city life and thought busy Berliners might like a meal they could carry with them.
While there are other possible "doner inventors," Mr Nurman's contribution was recognised by the Association of Turkish Doner Manufacturers in 2011.

Don't know if you've ever had one in Holland But whilst living there I never found one I liked...I put it down to the fact the meat was always diced.

LMAO

I can get a lion meat burger in Tampa, but as far as I know I can't get a doner kebab.

Wait, you mean your Muslim president hasn't made a Doener stand mandatory for each block yet?

The meat isn't all that bad but the question I keep asking myself is....never seen a square lamb before

There's probably a kebab stand per 100 inhabitants in this country.

Can't complain, can't get enough of this stuff

I can get one in my village, and within 10 - 20 minutes driving I can prolly reach 40+ shops that sell them, maybe as many as 60. That's for 140k people.

Next time I'm catering for just me I may well just go and get one as a thank you to Kadir, Rest In Peace, and not in some reformed shape.

I much prefer a shish to a doner. The doner is just another form of mystery meat and I reckon id have to be pretty desperate to go for one of those over the other choices on offer. Kebab shops are everywhere over here. I suppose it's a symptom of our drinking culture.

Cooking myself, mostly Italian and Chinese-European style. Döner never was my thing. The taste varies from bar to bar, but the way the meat gets prepared at factories is suspicious to me, and if you know what is done there, you easily can loose your appetite. We have had quite some food scandals that involved Döner meat factories. Beside that, the taste also does not really impress me. Not shabby, but also nothing I miss if I do not have it.

I prefer mixed Wok-food, for which I do not need any more than Ketjap Manis or Ketjap Asin, Sherry, dark Chinese soy sauce, sugar, pepper, salt, chicken soup, and some herbs and rarely used ingredients at times. Pasta. Selfmade pizza. Some Italian recipes from the book, some Chinese. And occasionally a steak. Oooh, and Gulasch, sometimes. There are maybe two dozen recipes that I really can do very well. And I fall back to just these few time and again. Neither any need to experiment, nor interest - I am no cook. I just master these few recipes, and that's it. But these recipes I really do better than anyone I know. I admit, on some of the things I cook I'm proud.

ME cousine is not my taste. It's nothing against Islam or Arabia or such, as some maybe assume now. I just do not like it by taste, and I mean taste alone.

Had a Doner last night, good stuff. RIP and thank you to the man who brought it to Europe.
