Default UN Security Council adopts resolution on Syria

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-09-2...eapons/4986548

Yet another toothless waste of paper signed off by the UN.

Quote:
Yesterday, the US and Russia reached an agreement on the wording of the resolution, which would be legally binding but would not include automatic enforcement, such as sanctions or the use of military force.
So exactly nothing will be done as long as Syria looks like it hands over its chemical weapons, regardless of what really happens.

Syria and Russia are the real winners in this.

You sound surprised. UN=Joke.

As for nothing will be done...
what would you like to see? Retribution in the way of limited air strikes would have achieved little.
E-peen stroking by the West "look at what we can do".

And the other from of retribution which would have involved troops on the ground, basically invading Syria and deposing Assad would never have happened. Not in a million years.

Not having a crack at you TarJak, just inviting further discussion on the 'other' options available for action.

To me, the above were it.

And the big O can thank his lucky stars that Russia gave him a way out.

Certainly not surprised other than that they bothered to commit that load of tripe to paper. But then it's all about the perception that they are doing something isn't it?

I don't want to see military options used as first option either, however given the stance of the US and UK on this prior to the Russian solution it is a major victory for both Syria and Russia.

As for other options the section route wasn't going to work with Russian supply, so without the Russian solution the military options were the only ones left really.

The killing joke is that the use of conventional weapons will continue unabated until either side gains the upper hand enough to force the other side to back down. Just as long as no one uses chemical weapons.
