Default Back after long absence.. Screen resolution & 3d engine issues, help!

Hi, I'm back for a campaign after a long absence.

I'm having the 'can't initialize 3d engine' issue. Windows 7(x64).

I have a dual monitor setup, 2 x 22inch @ 1680x1050 @ 59Hz. (I only want to run on one monitor)

I'm aware that the fix is setting resolution between 60-75 Hz, but my monitor keeps resetting to 59Hz. So this will NOT work for me.

If i reduce my resolution in widows to 1440x900 @75Hz the game loads. But this is far from ideal.

Ideally i'd like to apply the widescreen fix and run the game at 1680x1050 in windowed mode. Does anyone know how i can achieve this?

I've tried editing the main.cfg file, but this seems to have no affect upon resolution and windowed or not.

Any guidance or help in this area would appreciated. Maybe there is another approach to this..?

Cheers

hello
there is a widescreen fix somewhere in the downloads section. as for the having to change resolution please remember that the game was designed in the 4:3 ratio era and not todays modern 16:9.

Also note that with the widescreen fix you may not be able to take screenshots any longer. With my system (and others) attempting to take a screen shot in widescreen mode causes crash to desktop.

I missed the word not!

The only way i can play is by setting my resolution to 1440x900, which is a pain and messes things up on my desktop.

Is there a way to play at a custom resolution in windowed mode?

Ok thanks.

I've just bought SH5, I'll move over to that and see if it is better than the aged SH3.
