Hi everybody! Long time I didn't show up in the forum. I was a true fan of SHIII, running an heavy modded sim. As I got a new computer recently, I switched to SH5 2 days ago.
I'm currently installing the first TDW's mods (once again, and not last, THANK YOU!). I managed to go through the Generic Patcher, New-UI and Real Nav. As I was basically correcting the vanilla bugs and enhancing the UI, I remembered an old bug, well hidden in the .sim files about the battery life. VonHelsching was the first to point it in this thread : http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=90269 So I opened the 7b sim file, and to my big surprise, the old bug was still there. Before I go further, and possibly publish a correction mod, I want to know if some of you are interested, or if the work is already done, althought I found no trace of such a patch mod. |

Probably worth testing first. I did a quick test in a VIIC by submerging and then setting 4 knots, got about 107km on map before empty message (battery still had 2% charge), this equates to 66 miles or 57 nm, so not the 80 miles set in the sim, but it wasn't over range, it was under...?

![]() Unless patrolling the South Atlantic or the Indian Ocean near the Equator, SH5 distances are greatly exaggerated and some compromise settings, rather than real figures, should be set ![]() |

Indeed I did some tests too (only on type VIIa for the moment).
With stock value, I traveled 18h at 4 knots, run a distance of 120km, battery left 4%, CO2 35%. With corrected value, I traveled 26h at 4 knots, run a distance of 180km, battery left 3%, CO2 54% ![]() The technical spec for a VIIa is 94miles@4 knots, that being so 174km@4 knots. So I think the bug is still there, and the solution too. About the CO2 level, we had exactly the same problem with SHIII, general thinking was that a 10 factor was faulthy harcoded. We twicked the display by the same factor. OSHA's maximum safe level is 3%; lethal concentration (death in 30 minutes) is 10%. |

I think I remember it cropping up in SH3, but now looking back at the old thread I am a bit confused.
Is SH5 being overgenerous with battery charge like SH3 or do the ranges need boosting, as your test might suggest..? Anyway, inaccurate is inaccurate, if you can get the ranges to tally with recorded values that would certainly be a worthwhile mod... |
