Default Monitor choice, advice needed

Hi folks, replacing my home office desktop, the system I am getting comes just base unit or complete system with 19 inch tft 4:3 aspect, now; do I get the monitor which I believe is right for sh3 or do I get a widescreen elsewhere and go with the workarounds to make it enjoyable to use. How does the widescreen and res fixes effect manual shooting etc? (does it effect ships length when calculating speed) your input and advice would be appreciated.

ps I have used the search function and read through posts about widescreen, but would like to know peoples pros and cons for either option.

Thanks Bert.

if it were me, i would get the monitor that works best with the applications i would use most often.

if SH3 is your baby, by all means get the one that works with SH3 with the minimum work around effort.

I on the other hand use a 28" widescreen and no res fixes. It stopped looking odd to me long ago, and I don't even notice anymore.

Ok, but how does it look? is it stretched and if it is does this effect gameplay and using any of the mods eg. measuring and plotting tools?

As I said, I never notice. For me, at least, it has no adverse effect.

But bear in mind that I'm not like most normal people.

My monitor is a 22" widescreen and the resolution is set at auto....there is no noticeable stretching.

A few screenshots:

Thankyou for the replies, nice screenshots Jimbuna cant see much wrong with that.
Another concern was the effect it may have on using plotting tools accurately or measuring ships speed by the time X length method, nobody seems to have a problem with this so it would seem I was worrying over nothing.
Thanks Bert.

As another option, I (used to) run twin 22" widescreens, and run SH3 in windowed mode. That way I can use the other screen, and set the res of SH3 to what works best for me.

SH3 main menu. Go to options, then video, then un-check the option "Full Screen"

Seems simple but games don't normally do it that way, had to go double check to see if SH3 had the option . Usually its the opposite with a box for windowed mode.
