pumped quite some hours into CivV and recently acquired Gods and Kings for it, but have yet to touch the new content the expansion has to offer.

Been a CIV4 BTS player for a while now, and reading the message boards, as I've been doing some light modding, I got the feeling a lot of player aren't happy with the changes CV brought?

I have honestly never played civ 4, Civ V is my first. I like it though. Its got a nice style, I enjoy the combat (They say they removed unit stacking which adds more depth to combat, in which I agree, you have to plan out flanks accordingly) The big gripe seemed to be that they didnt have religion in it to begin with, but with Gods and Kings the expansion added it back in. All in all so far I like it. I enjoy the way the other states interact with you, I could only imagine how awesome multiplay would be

I liked some of the changes incorporated in CIV5. Every edition of the CIV series incorporated changes I liked and disliked so I can't fault the programmers. What I did not like was how changes would be made and automatically updated on my computer. I never figured out how to turn those off. Is there a way to play CIV5 completely isolated from the Internets Tubes? I often wanted to play a quick CIV5 game on my laptop, but never seemed to be able to. Is there any way, even if I buy the disks, that I can get away from Steam? I have had such bad experiences with Steam and their wonderful customer support that I really don't want to do business with them. At least my CIV4 works and works well.
