What are you guys' favorite platforms to play as? I will take a good old 688 any day of the week.

For me, it's a toss up between the 688i and the Seawolf. The 688i's panels look so old school, and the ambiance of the Seawolf feels kind of "Star Trek The Next Generation" to me.

SEAWOLF & 688I.
I'm trying to learn how to use the FFG. So far I've found its best use to be a missile and torpedo sponge, unfortunately even for own-forces attacks against enemy targets. Tom |

I do like the Akula. 688i and Akula are probably my favorites.
IMHO, the RA mod (even though it adds tons of platforms), makes the game worse than the stock game. LWAMI, I never install correctly because sometimes 3D models are missing. I just play the stock game. ![]() ![]()

Can't decide. All the ships have some many good and bad things.
Seawolf : Just exceptional speed and effective sensors. I took it for the first time and hooked up quite a lot of contacts and was able to pick the one I wanted to hit. Only thing I don't like is that the 668 has a better firepower. Los Angeles Class : Good subs. Easy to use with extremly effective sonars (I like the "I seeee youuuu" radar for very close contacts, its a fun one to use.) Maybe the speed makes it a little harsh to use when having to flee a frigate. Kilo : Don't like it. Not enough weapons and sonars are really basic. Akula : Looks cool, weapons are plain awesome and its quite fast and silent. I'd like him better with US styled sonars, I find the russian ones a bit strange. ---- I think that after some training I'll go for the Akula. The fact that there's one screen for a 360 view of your sonars and all the different ones you makes it very efficient. Should try it a bit more. Frigate really interests me but so far I've never been able to find any sub and I always end up with 2 torpedoes chasing me. |

Very much enjoying the P-3 so far, which is mainly due to OneShot's excellent operating guide which made learning the basics of the platform a breeze. The P-3 seems to also get a lot of love in single player scenarios and campaigns which is nice.
I also have a lot of affection for the MH-60R, it's simple to learn and being able to maneuver around the battle space with such precision feels great. Although, I think that gameplay wise the helo seems to be more limited in comparison to the P-3, and makes too few appearances in the scenarios that come with the game. I bet it's a blast in multiplayer though.... I'm now taking my tentative first steps with the Akula, (I gather that the submarine platforms are the real 'meat' of the game) it may not be as sophisticated as the American boats, but it sure rates a 10 on the coolness scale - damn thing's a beast!
