How do you find ship convoys?

Hello all, I'm new to Silent Hunter 5 and Subsim and overall I'm loving it. Silent Hunter 5 is an awesome game but I can't track any ship convoys. The best I can do is sit and wait. Hope you guys got some ideas or suggestions and thanks

G'day GunnersMate105

Convoys regulary show up on your map as 'Radio contacts'. That is, they are automaticaly drawn on your navigation map (depending on realism settings) as a lager 'merchant ship' symbol, often far out of range of your sensors. If you click on the symbols they will show info on the contact; 'small convoy' + speed etc.

Mind you there are plenty of them in this game so often they'll just find you!

Default Genaue meldungen

In those days Uboat skippers were given areas in the Atlantic to patrol. When they reached their patrol area they laid down a patrol pattern and started the patrol. At the same time they were very much dependent of Uboat reports from other areas and from long range observation planes that could patrol a much lager area much faster.

So you should keep a close eye to contact reports from your radio operator and from time to time submerge to approx. 50 metes and let your sonar guy make a sweep to see if there is a sound contact. Keep patroling your area maybe extend it and just hope you fall on some thing and that your watch crew is awake.

Another thing is that you could google where the convoy shipping lanes are to find out the routes to Brittain from America and then make a patrol along one of them, then you most certainly will find a convoy with "Fette beute".

Send patrol reports to tell bdu where you are so they can send some contact reports back to you . Be aware that the enemy can locate you so it is a dangerous practise in the wrong area .
