Default Very minor issue: I can't open the journal from the main menu

Not sure how that happened, but when I try to open the journal from the main menu by clicking on it, the journal editor opens just fine after minimizing the sim, but it says "unable to open file".

However, when I then choose "open file" from the journal editor, the journal shows up and opens without a problem.

Is this normal or did I, once again, mess up something?

sounds like you reinstalled SH5 to another location and your registry didn't get updated by the SH5 installer. Try running my SH5 validator. Once you set the path to your SH5 installation it will compare that to what it reads from the registry. If they are different it will give you option to have it automatically update registry.

That's exactly what I did. (I used to have the Steam version).

I thought I'd avoided that kind of trouble by running CCleaner after uninstalling the Steam version, though, but I do remember now that when I first tried to install the DVD version I had to manually run the installer from the DVD as the splash screen had the "Install" option grayed out.

I ran the validator and pointed it to the correct install directory, but it never game me the option to update the registry. However, it did show a lot of errors but they were all related to ship and plane classes, and I think that may have to do with all of my mods as it's not a "clean" install anymore.

And it still won't open the journal directly from the main menu.

Now I'll have to look through my .py code to see what happens when you click the journal button and you have a journal selected as I don't remember what it does

Thanks. It's the strangest thing, really, because it just won't open straight from the main menu by clicking on the journal name. However, when I try to open it from the journal editor it is right there and opens without a problem. It also logs correctly as everything I've done is in there as it should.

Disable the core UIs mod via JSGME. In your MODS folder place this file: http://www.mediafire.com/?qs3x8ackxmttcaa

in your MODS\new uis mod\data\scripts\menu

re-enable mod via JSGME. Start the DbgView app. Start the game. Once the main menu is shown ensure there is a journal selected under 'Ships Journal' (make sure it doesn't say None under it) then click the journal to try and spawn the journal editor app. I'll need to see the DbgView output.
