I played SH3 for years. Just picked up SH5 a few weeks ago.
The graphics are great. But I'm just not getting into the game at all. I think the biggest thing I miss is jumping from station to station with the F keys. I've downloaded a mod that lets me teleport to some stations, but teleporting to the map is not one of the choices. I also can't figure out why my TC keeps dropping to 1 for no apparent reason. I'm bummed! Steve |

click the "navigation mode" button on the leftside of TC to enable uninterrupted (friendly-based) time travel.

Also, I can get to the nav map by using one of the F keys, if I'm not mistaken. I've got the Multiple UI mod so I know the teleporting "T" shortcut has a few stations, but the Nav-Map is one of those things that's got like three ways to get there. I'm not trying to be defensive, this game is not going to be everyone's cup of tea, but I think there has to be a bigger reason than those. Both are easily remedied. My biggest problem with 5 is no arrow keys for the Periscopes and UZO. That really got me. It's been awhile and I don't even think about it anymore.
Maillemaker, I hope you stay as I do with all our Kaleuns out there but everyone doesn't see things the same or play for the same reasons. Personally, I gotta boot this up every time I get two feet away from my PC. Good Hunting!! D40 ![]()

Yes, Dogfish, it's the F3 button. Takes you straight to the Nav Map. The wheel icon on the top right does the same thing too.

Well the ship wheel icon was a big help, thanks - now I can jump to my nav map from any station and that is a big help.
I noticed last night shooting at 2 stopped ships in a harbor that my torpedoes all drifted to the right of the aiming point, even though I had the TDC set to 0 speed. Steve |

I know that this game takes alot of patence . You have to use your skills that are learned from kriegsmarine school .. Depending on your level of play . you have to plot courses from a distant place and than intercept a convoy . if you are using real nav , You have to keep checking your course so that you dont run aground when you are close to land . You have to get the figures for a accurate TDC soulution .. you have to conserve fuel , you have to make desicisns when to disengauge from attacking a convoy or find your self getting waserbomben to death
For a hardcore subsimmer -- the game gives you a options to manage things and make desicions to survive SH5 only makes sense when it is modded . otherwise is becomes a arcade type of sim and after awile you will get bored and stop playing . I dont think that there is no other way to play the game unless you are at a 100% and modded .. In every aspect of life , The things that become familar , become boring ! There enough of support here with other fellow subsimmers to keep your knowlege growning and challaenging .. I have seen vidoes of this game with the plotted line in front of you and and there is never a situation were the boat deviates from its course , Unless you are using a real nav situation , When pressing in for an attack , Postion is a good factor to know or ply were your intercept point is when engaging enemy ships . Even when You have used all of your learned skills , A torpedo can miss and that makes you re-consider and re-caculate . I cannot say at this point that the game is or will become dry for me . there are alot situations and sceanarios to master so that you could get results like this ....... ![]() Good Luck and happy hunting !! ![]()

Re: your TC dropping to 1, if you're using TDWs New UIs Mod, there are a series of buttons at the top right that control what events drop you to TC1. They all have tooltips, so hover your mouse over them for a few seconds to see what they do.
![]() Not sure about your possible torpedo drift though. One thing to bear in mind about the SH5 TDC - to use the manual input method (either via TDWs extra UI dials or the stock SH5 manual input), you must lock the target and keep it locked (or not lock it at all). If you lock a target with the spacebar, then hit spacebar again to unlock, your TDC settings will auto-switch to the exact settings needed to hit the ship (at its current speed/course/aob etc). Using this method you can literally hit space, hit it again, and then aim using the periscope at the target ship and fire (with open tubes) and hit every time, even at extreme range. This is handy if you're lazy - but if you unlock after inputting manual settings, your inputs will change - this may be skewing your shots. Or it could of course be something else! Hope this helps ![]() |

Excellent post Orpheus!
It the first time I've truely understood the hows and whys of the functioning of the TDC. Though I've had no problem hitting the selected target after studying various tutorials and Stoianm's well done videos, I've always been in the dark as to exactly what I was doing. You turned on the light. Thanks |

Because I am (attempting to) do manual targeting as I did in SH3. I enable TDC manual input, set the target speed to zero (for a stationary target), and disable manual input. At this point, the torpedo should go where I point it. But the impact points were slightly to the right. In fact my right-most shots almost missed on two different ships. Only my close range (900m) allowed me to barely catch the end of the ship. Steve |
