Default Rockin Robbins Fast 90's question

I know how annoying it is when a Nub is asking very basic questions without using "search" facility or showing efforts to do more self learning, so be gentle guys, I have been trying to figure this out for the last couple of days.

Rockin Robbins' tutorial (credits for his sense of humor):

This guy is always going to be set at 90º. All we have to do is figure out whether it should be right or left. Think of this as "what side of the target am I looking at." Our guy is coming left to right, so we're looking at his starboard (right or recht side). Now if you're a boater, you know green is starboard and red is port (port wine is red), but if you're not, just look over at the bearing dial which says "bug recht" on the green side. This is just like the old multiple guess test in school. Half the answers are in the other questions. Set this needle to 90º right. (If he were coming from the right, we'd set it to 90º left. But he's not so we're not.) Done! This is too easy. Are you sure we can DO THIS????

By "if he were coming from the right, we'd set it to 90 degrees left", does it mean that we always set 90 degrees left whenever the target is coming from right and vice versa no matter what the precise target's angle is?

This confuses me since a video from YT telling us that we measure the AoB precisely (and he updates it twice).

Thank you in advance.

Regards

To shoot a "Fast 90" you must do two things.

First plot the target's course.

Second plot your intercept course so that when you get to your firing position
you are perpendicular or 90° to the target course. Hence Fast 90.

If the target is coming from your right you will be shooting at the target's left or port side. Coming from the left, shooting at right or starboard side.
Set the AoB port or starboard depending on which side you'll shoot at.

You set AoB to 90 because that is what the AoB will be when you shoot.
Might not be exactly 90° but very close.

I don't know what the "video from YT" is but make sure you are not mixing up two different shooting methods. If he is setting the AoB and updating it, it sounds like some other method.

Picture a needle. So when the target is moving from left to right (as I will aim its starboard), I have to move AoB needle 90 degrees to the left?

Wish I had a dollar for every time I set up using the wrong orientation.

It happens. For some of us, it happens more often.

I knew I forgot to add something to that illustration.
Right to Left (on the bottom). <---

Left to Right (on the top). --->
