Default SH1 Stadimeter

I remember when playing SH1 that due to the old graphics it was a bit hard to obtain range on pix-elated targets although in auto mode you had it right away.

Well, playing and doing things manually how was range to target obtained using the TBT?

My recollections of SHCE are a bit hazy, but I do remember problems along those lines. The best solution I was able to come up with, was to cut out a transparent piece of plastic, and use a marker to make a reticle on it. Then, when using the TBT, I would have to hold this up to the monitor and maybe pause the game, to obtain the angular height of the target.

Perhaps, others developed a more elegant solution. I tried to mod the game so the TBT had the same reticle as the periscope, but got nowhere.

If you come up with anything, post it. I'm tempted to go back to SHCE sometimes........................................: hmmm:

Over in:
http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/SilentHunter/
files section are Kim's tools:
Kimsmanualtoolsplusmanual.zip
Quote:
Kim's course calculator (MK-4B), range calculator(MK-3B), sonar plotter(MK-1), radar plotter(MK-8 BX), TDC manual(MK-1), and a manual for all of it.
I printed everything out on clear plastic, cut them out, and put a rivet in the center that had a hole in it for a string which I found easier to use than the plastic piece with the line. To print the tools you need Delta CAD to read the files which is a nice little program - free demo works fine.

You first print out 2 copies of the Range calculator. To do this you must first have a version of DeltaCad; a full functioning demo-version can be downloaded from http://www.dcad.com/demo.html

Great, if you want to dig through more SHCE SH1 related files, some additional gems are located at:
http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/PacificThunder/

I would like to see them put to good use and make someone who likes this great old DOS classic, Silent Hunter I, SHCE, happy :)

Happy Hunting!
