Libya conflict: Heavy gunfire erupts in Tripoli

Explosions and sustained gunfire have been heard in parts of Tripoli, as rebels close in on the Libyan capital.

A BBC correspondent in the city says it sounded like exchange of fire rather than celebratory gunshots.

Residents spoke of clashes in the city, amid reports that opponents of Col Muammar Gaddafi were being urged to go on the streets.

The rebels earlier claimed control of of Zlitan, 160km (100 miles) east of Tripoli, and Zawiya, 30km to the west.

However, pro-Gaddafi forces have been fighting back at the oil port of Brega, with the rebels admitting that they fell back from the eastern town's industrial zone under heavy bombardment.

Gaining momentum

There are reports of protests and gunfire in areas to the north and east, including the Tajoura district, where there was trouble at the start of this uprising against Col Gaddafi, the BBC's Matthew Price in Tripoli reports.

One credible source told the BBC there was heavy fighting in the city.

Another just as Creditable source says "Who really Cares?"

Aside from shifting a few Power Mongers?
It will have little impact on current situations in many respects.
It's mostly a non-issue who comes out on top.

I do ... the longer the war going on, the more involved I become, for various reasons,

Libya has been a back waters area of non-interst since I killed a number of
so-called threats there years ago!

I wish them luck with whatever they are doing.
But I see a future problem with whoever takes control.

Yes, it must be an order, and no new Iraq or equivalent.

Libya is nothing more then a way for speculators to reap huge profits!
All at the cost of us simple people.
The sad part is that the Gov's are helping with this whole thing!

If you burned Libya to the ground and no Oil ever came out of there again?
How much effect do you think would really be felt?
If Libya was in any way a major player in World affairs lately?

Show me why I should care beyound the fact that I may have not killed the right person.
The fact is you can't.
Libya is a non-issue aside from what I stated above!
It was not in the News before the revolt, and is mostly not reported now.
It's a back-water, ho-hum, event.
