If the info from here agrees with the news story then it would be news.

It would be interesting if this story is true.

75 meters is still accessible by highly specialized divers.

It is about the same depth as the Andrea Doria.

It would be good if this could be confirmed. Are they just basing their discovery on the metal detector readings? That's a bit light.

here is what goggle says:

Family Schurmann said it had found the wreckage of a Nazi submarine that was shot down by allied forces on the coast of Santa Catarina during the 2nd World War.

The discovery was announced late on Thursday (14) after two years of searching. Family Schurmann is on board the sailboat Aysso, commanded by Captain Vilfredo Schurmann.

The submarine, U-Boat prefix-513, was located by means of special devices that detect the presence of metals. According to a statement of Schurmann, the submarine is about 75 meters deep near São Francisco do Sul (SC).

He was shot by an American seaplane took off from Florianópolis on 19 July 1943. Of the 46 crew members, seven survived, including the captain, and were rescued by a Navy ship in the United States, where they were taken prisoner.

Before being found, the submarine sank three merchant ships off the Brazilian coast, one American, one Swedish and one Brazilian, and attacked two American vessels of war.

Captain Fritz was Friedrich Guggenberger, decorated by Hitler with the Iron Cross for shooting down an aircraft carrier in the UK.

The submarine was known as Lone Wolf.

Edit: as a sidenote, Guggenberger has an interesting story: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=1673492&postcount=10
