Default Silent Hunter IV

Hi all,

this is probably old hat but.......

Firstly, having not been able to get SH3 to work on a 64 bit version of Windows 7, I decided to give up to have a go with SH4.

Now that I have managed to get in to SH4 it I'm loving it as much as SH3 and I've downloaded the TMO and patch and RSRD and patch supermods which make the stock game brillient so a big thankyou to Damarcus and co. Why couldn't Ubisoft incorporate this in the stck game in the first place?

I've noticed that the game crashes quite frequently particularly when returning and docking at Pearl Harbour but also at random times elsewhere.

My OS is Windows 7 64 bit ultimate ed and I have an I7 920 cpu, 12 gig of RAM, Gainwood nvidia 295GTX, and 250 GB SSD.

I have already tried completely un-installing and reinstalling as the game, then the Uboat missions then TMO2, TMO 2.1 patch then RSRD 502 and finally the RSRD patch.

Is this a known problem and if so is there a fix?

Thanks for any comments

Dave

Hi Dave! SH3, in my experience do not have any problems with W7, might depend on how your installation went to, I myself have it on W7 64 bits, and no problems at all ... so why not make an attempt to, if you feel like it, we'll help you resolve any problems,

Thanks, I'll try another un-install and re-install to see if that resolves the problem.

Before I do that though I'll try something with my hard drive. I have a crucial SSD drive operating via an ASUS daughter board to give a sata 6 connection. I have noticed once or twice that the pc has failed to find the drive on bootup so it may be just a bad connection on my pcie slot and the crashes have been caused by SH4 failing to find the drive. Failing that I will have to plug it into my normal sata 2 connections on the mobo.

If you re-install the game put it into a folder other than Programs Files.
Make a separate folder. Program Files causes CTD issues when mods are installed. More so with Vista but also with Win 7.

Magic is correct. This will fix 90% of your crash problems. Also, if you are loading a saved game, be sure you save from the control room (F2) and no closer than 50nm to land. My Win7 64-bit works fine for both SH3-GWX3 and SH4 (TMO2.1+RSRDC, et al)
