Default Ubisoft has a chance to correct the game

Hello,

I was thinking about SH5 and compared to SH5, SH4 had alot of bugs which were corrected on 1.5 (Uboot) expansion.

If Ubi's mgmt could think it over, they really have a chance of correcting the flaws in stock game.

I'm talking about SH5 Fleet boat expansion. They did a Uboot expansion for an Allied game, why not do an American expansion for an Axis game? Would be logical, would make us happy (only if they do it right this one time) and certainly we would love to see the American boats interior and walk through it as well, just like real life. Imagine having all boats; Balao, Gato, Porpoise, Sargo, Tench... I mean if I worked or if someone worked at Ubi and is a frequent visitor to our forum, (which I think they are), they may end the game and we can give them a chance. Also, to the American aspect, they could provide non DRM requirement, smoothing things up for us. They could clear their servers from our saved games, our traffic for upcoming games? I mean if their management even listens to the voice of reason, they indeed would have this on their next to-do list.

Dont you agree fellas?

I'm being optimistic as I loved SH4 soooo much, I just finished stock 1.5 American only and decided to go ahead with the Axis side, on SH5 this time, making use of graphics.

I don't think there's still a dev-team at all. Imho Ubisoft completly abandoned the Silent Hunter-Franchise. But I hope, i'm wrong.

Who knows what Ubisoft management is planning, their communication skills are so increadibly piss poor I doubt even the developers of SH5 know.

They should follow the example of Eagle Dynamics (with the DCS A10 sim) as an example on how to do things right.

The dev team was dissolved months ago; some of them don't even work for Ubi anymore. Sorry to say it, but since all development for SH5 has halted, there won't be any further patches, let alone expansions. What we have is all we'll have.

never say never...

"The original SHIII Dev Team have been moved onto various other projects and are offering their assistance to the community as they can in their own free time. It was Ubisofts decision not to make available a SDK for SHIII, the Dev Team are only employees. However, it is only through the grace of Ubisoft that the SHIII Dev Team have been able to make such generous offers. So let’s not get into ‘yer but they said’ etc, it will not change anything."

"In May, the SHIII Dev Team had mostly been split up. Some having been moved onto other projects, and in some cases they have left Ubisoft.
Let me clarify something. There is NO add on for SHIII, there is at this stage NO SHIV.
Guys, you need to understand, SHIII is a finished project for Ubisoft. Finished, no more patches and no add ons, nothing. I would not rule out a SHIV, but I am 99% sure that ther most likely will not be one anytime in the next few years."

It's not the first time Ubisoft has declared the SH series dead and buried.

I'll stand by my 'never' and go a step further: This series is dead; there will never be another Silent Hunter.

I'm not going anywhere, and I still play the game (I like it, for that matter) so if I end up being wrong you can all quote and razz me at will.

Here is how I imagine the story:
Devs: Hi, we have some ideas about SH5
Ubi: Uhm.. frak SH, AC is the shiat
Devs: dude, we can make some money from it
Ubi: Sure you do! Frak SH
Devs: seriously dude, this will work...
Ubi: Really? Ok, here it is.. I give you a buck or two, will you give me more back?
Devs: yeah.. *mumbling* the modders will finish the game...
Ubi: k, here is your budget and time frame, dont frak this up!
Devs: ....

Community

Now, what I really like in SH5 is the "back to roots" feeling what I never had before. Im not using and I will never use TDW UI or any automation mod. Instead Im going for the rogue feeling of a broken boat. Where you have to struggle really hard to accomplish something, is what I think that those guys in ww2 did. Dud torpedoes and ammo, wrong coordinates for convoys.. is like the real deal for politics ruled by amateurs.

Remember, you're just quoting a player of the game, not a member of Ubisoft's management or dev team.

To be honest. I think Ubi's days of making a decent subsim were over after they made Sh4.

It's time the genre of game went to a decent indie game developer, or at least to some company who listens to their fanbase or has realistic expectations of their dev team.

True Neal, but that thread did remind me that we were having the exact same discussion on the future of the SH series 6 years ago and since then we have had sh4, the u-boat addon and sh5.

I personally think the SH series is probably finished. However, just playing devil's advocate here, if we do get an addon, it will probably be with a playable type IX U-Boat, since much of the code in already in sh5 and the interior is about 80% the same as a type VII, with some game fixes and 1-2 additonal campaigns (gulf of mexico/caribbean/south atlantic or Indian Ocean).

Not much actually, between the 1.2 patch and the mods which have come out, all the major problems with the game have been fixed. I am 12 days into a june 1940 "happy day's" patrol and it is extremely enjoyable and immersive. The more I spend time with this game, the more I notice the improvements over sh3/4. I actually enjoy it more than I ever did sh3 or 4.

The only two remaining issues for me are: 1) the crew management which is a step back from the model in sh4, although this is a minor problem; and 2) a reworked campaign, RSRDC style, although again the stock campaign is not bad and is far from being a shooting gallery.
