Ok, so I thought it might be a good idea to have people post the things they do in their game that aren't covered by game mechanics, SH3Commander or other addons / mods. If not to feed my own curiosity, then to give players here something to think about and maybe incorporate into their gameplay to make the whole experience more realistic. I'll start us off....
When it comes to air attack, 99% of the time I will evade by crash diving and turning into the attack. I've never been hit yet using this method and I try not to hang around in shallow waters that don't give me a minimum of crash dive depth. Now, separate to this, is loading my external torpedoes. I used to be cruising along in map view at 128 TC and just load them without thinking about it but then it occurred to me that outside, it may be blowing a 15m/s gale with 30ft waves, making getting that torpedo down the access hatch an almost certain impossibility. So I adapted my procedure for it, in that now, I have to wait until the wind is 6m/s or less, light or no rain and daylight (just after dawn or just before dusk ). I also limit my speed to ahead slow and diving is not an option until all torpedoes are loaded into the sub, which is why I only load one torpedo at a time. So far, I've not been caught with my pants down but it's only mid 1940 in my IXB career so it should get a lot more interesting as time goes on. If they now turn up while I'm mid load, I have to duke it out with them using the AA guns. Two things can happen, I can either start getting some plane kills on my patrol logs or I can die. Very quickly... Make that 3 things, I could run into a task force and be unable to dive. DiD is a real b**ch sometimes. Your turn... ![]()
