Default I sunk that ship but no credit

I just sunk a cargo ship (got some major explosions few minutes after the torpedo impact) but i don't get the red ship icon in the map nor the grey one.
There is nothing mentioned in the captains log either.
Nothing. It's just as if that ship was never sunk.Whats wrong?
GWX 3.0 and the weather is bad (wind speed 15m/s).

Was it night and/or rain?

I've had it happen occasionally. You are to far away to "see" the ship, thus no credit is given or marks made on the map. I just had this happen at night, a few days ago in SH4. As I was heading away, the ship, which took some 4 hours(game time) to sink, finally went under. Even though I watched it sink, through the binoculars, I was too far away, thus no credit was given in the captain's log and no sinking ship mark was made on the map.

Sorry, but it is just how the game functions. It can be a real bear at night in bad weather.

Also, in rough weather a non-lethally damaged ship may sunk because of storm. Even if you've damaged it before, if it's the Mother Nature that draws the final hitpoint, she also takes the credit.

Can't agree with you on that one. Have sunk many warships in heavy storms/rough seas with a shot to the boilers or forward magaznies. Have sunk the Hood, Nelson, Rodney, and several revenge classes with just 1 well aimed eel. While there were some good explosions they weren't followed by, "she's going down" until at times hours later. As long as you did the initial or final damage to a ship and it sinks later on (can be several hours) you still get the credit for it. If by chance there is an air strike that hits the same ship you just hit you're SOL, you get a grey icon and the Luftwaffe would be the one credited with the kill regardless of how much damage you inflicted (in the game, irl those situations were more complicated and proper credit was given out when appropriate).

Mark it up to Bdu not giving you the credit and move on. It will happen more than once. Frustrating at times but not unrealistic.

It was mid-day,no rain and i was like 1km away the second time it happened.
I had to reload the game to see what was wrong.

It is likely that the bad weather conditions sucked up the last of the models damage points....this is how the weather damage is recognised by the game engine.

Whatever uses up the final points gets the credit.

at 800 yards in perfect weather I took out an S Class with deck fire (stupid thing didn't submerge!)

I got the 'She's going down!' message but no mark on the map and nothing in the report to BdU.

I sat next to it for a good hour and it just sat there with two officers scanning on deck so I put an eel into it for good measure (last one, 200ks from home so why not?) It sinks to periscope depth and just stays there....

No credit in Commander or anywhere... Must be BdU believes the tommies aren't technologically advanced enough for submarines - and BdZ surely would not acknowledge such a menace so close to friendly territory!!

Was it your first patrol for the career? Did you add any goodies to your boat before the patrol started? That can cause you to get no credit for that entire patrol.

nope. I got credit for everything else (bad a granville freighter in bad weather that was probably due to Mother Nature). It was odd

Weird. In many cases I don't get the mark on the map, but always got the "she's sinking" message and get the credit for it.
