Default Us capital warships

I am playing SHIII with GWX 3.0 for ages. I have only sunk one Essex class US carrier. Recently I managed to sneak in NY harbor (June 1942) but I found no big warships. (There were though a lot of juicy merchant targets large troop ship , ceramic type ocean liner and liberty cargos)

WHERE ARE THOSE BIG US WARSHIPS?

Do I need to raid Norfolk?

Thank you!

You'll have better luck looking for them at sea than in harbors, on convoy escort (particularly in arctic waters), as well as a few specific operations (like D-Day). You might have some luck with ships transiting along the US coast, as many were built and repaired in eastern shipyards (most notably New York and Philadelphia), but once there they'd be spending most of their time docked. Otherwise the bases aren't the smartest thing to go for. Norfolk is probably a decent bet, being the main base for the Atlantic fleet, but I'm not sure what there is in the game.

Thank you for the info.

Another suggestion: if you time things right, you can probably bag US capital ships supporting Operation Torch (off Morocco) and various subsequent Mediterranean landings.

Trying to answer your question without spoiling it for others is difficult but I'll give you a few tips:

Check out Boston during Feb 42 for the CA Tuscaloosa and New York between March and May 42 for the New Orleans Class Quincy and Norfolk for some escorts and a Bogue carrier.
