Been craving some more World War 2 strategy as of late. Hearts of Iron III is no longer doing it for me. I am looking for some free games that deal with a larger scope war wise. Do they exist?

Larger scope? What do you mean by that?

I'd have suggested Company of Heroes: Online. But that is a pretty small-scale, micro focused game (plus, its whimsical atmosphere might not fly with the crowd here).

I designed WW2 The Big One. New players always welcome.

Free version available. Difference to commercial CD version is minimal, most important one is: resolution locked to 800 and 1024. For higher res you need to pay. Classic, proven gameplay. I use the modern battles version of it.

I just meant games of the same size or a bit smaller.

Don't think you're going to find a free WWII grand strategy game, there are few enough of those games to begin with.
What's wrong with turn based games?
