Are there any decent WWI strategy games out there? Gallipoli in particular would be an interesting study.

World War I...hmm, that's hard...
The Operational Art of War III has a number of scenarios of various battles of WWI, including one covering the beginning of the Gallipoli campaign, as well as the Tannenberg campaign, Asiago, Caporetto, Cambrai, the German Spring Offensive and quite a few others. HPS Simulations just released the first game in the series of WWI operational games a couple of months ago, France '14, which (Not surprisingly) covers the entire 1914 campaign on the Western Front. I don't have this one yet, but I fully intend to get it when I can. There's World War One Gold by AGEOD. The original game was buggy as hell, but that's been resolved with the Gold version and a bunch of patches. This one is rather weird, though, since it's actually an adaptation of a board game. The latest fan-developed Hearts of Iron 2 game, Darkest Hour, is supposed to include World War I, but it's not out yet.

France '14
http://www.volcanomods.com/ The guy named Volcano mentioned in the second link is the same guy you may know from the eSim/SBP team. I know by personel experience that he is very helpful and patient if you have questions. You need to register to get access to forums and mod download pages. His map rework for Danube '85 for example is very well done. The basic system behind France '14 seems to be comparable to that of Danube '85 which I am currently envolved in. If that assumption of mine is correct, it is very recommendable a game design.

Okay, sounds like France '14 is the way to go. Darkest Hour is in the bucket list also.
Thanks for your help, guys. ![]() |

You also should give "History Line 1914-1918" a try (US-Title: "Great War 1914-1918"). It's turn-based, multiplayer-capable (two at the same time at one PC), the maps are designed with a hexagonal grid (like in "Panzer General").
It's a very old game, released by BlueByte (SSI in the USA) in 1992/1993, but definitely worth a look if you manage to obtain a copy ![]() Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_Line:_1914-1918

Eh, France '14 is relatively new, I think.
